AMBER - The Greeks originally called Amber elektron, meaning "sun-gold". Did you know that if you rubbed a piece of amber it will attract wood shavings and straw? This stone has been in use for over seven thousand years to help stimulate metabolism and to treat ailments caused by metabolic imbalances. It cleanses the environment, body and spirit. It enhances self healing and promotes decisiveness. This stone is associated with the solar plexus. Negative energy can make amber cloudy. To cleanse it, hold under luke warm water.

SILVER - is really a precious metal but I thought I would add it to this list because I use so much of it as an accent. Silver has been used as early as the fourth millennium B.C. It wasn't until the mining of it in America and Mexico, that the value attached to it fell so dramatically. When silver is combined with weaker healing crystals or stones, it intensifies their attributes, making them more powerful.(this is especially so for turquoise and coral) For stones that are too powerful for you, use silver as a filter to tone that stones energy down. Silver also encourages inner peace and has a calming effect. Silver will work on all chakras.

LABRADORITE - has won the award for the most boring tid-bit on this list... get ready... wait for it... This stone was discovered at the end of the eighteenth century on the Canadian peninsula of Labrador. Told you! Gosh and It's really such a beautiful stone. Maybe I could try to make something up. This stone combines intellectual thought with intuitive wisdom. It aligns the physical and etheric bodies and deflects unwanted energies from the wearer's aura. This stone is thought to work well on the sacral and heart chakra.
For healing purposes, this stone should be carried around. If it becomes cloudy, cleanse it by placing it in mineral water and leave out in the sun for a few days.

ROSE QUARTZ - To promote love and desire amongst people, Eros brought rose quartz to earth. So it's not surprising that this stone increases sexuality and fertility. It also calms and reassures the wearer, bringing about deeper inner healing. This stone helps to release blockages from unexpressed emotions. This stone is associated with the heart chakra. To cleanse this stone; hold it under running water and recharge it by placing it in an amethyst geode.

MOON STONE - Is considered a woman's stone. In Arab countries, a moonstone is offered as a "blessing" to ensure a large family and encourage the fertility of the woman. Even in today's time, moonstones are regularly sewn into women's nightgowns to exert it's power, (or possibly to help her, exert hers) This stone has a powerful effect on the female reproductive cycle. It helps to aid in intuition and empathy and enhances psychic ability. This stone is associated with the sacral chakra. This stone should be carried on the female and cleansed after menstruation. To cleanse; place among hematite stones. To recharge, place on a window sill during a full moon.

PEARLS - Cleopatra is said to have served wine with ground pearls in it to her more important guests. While I love to wear them, I'm not sure I'm ready to drink them but this tid-bit was much better than ... Lucifer is said to have broken his teeth because of his craving for pearls. (probably best not to look further into that one) I do know, Pearls really are not a stone, they are considered part of the marine animal kingdom. I do use them often in my jewelry and so I have added them to this list. Pearls promote wisdom and contentment through life, well on into old age. They reduce allergies and can alleviate migraines and chronic headaches. Pearls should be worn directly on the skin. (do not let them come in contact with perfume or makeup) When not worn, they should be stored in the dark. To cleanse them; place on dry sea salt over night, then recharge by placing them in and oyster shell.

Vibrational Attributes For Healing Stones

M uch has been written about healing stones and crystals and while becoming an author does appeal to me, I just don't have time.   I will refer you to some books and links that I have found helpful to me in my practice.

I hope to keep this segment very brief but informative. I will list the majority of the stones that I work with and give you their healing attributes. I'm also a Reiki practitioner, so I will also make a notation of which Chakra the stone works best for. If you have never heard of Reiki, this will all seem Japanese to you,(hee, hee, it's a little joke) ehh hmm, but I would encourage you to follow up on some of the reading I will suggest. I find Reiki to be a very powerful alternative healing modality and well worth checking out.
Sooo without further adieu ... we're off.
TURQUOISE - American Indians consider this a holy stone. It helps to lift depression, gives self confidence and promotes endurance. It is wonderful for promoting spiritual atunement and unites energies of the sky and earth. This stone is usually associated with the throat chakra. To cleanse your turquoise stone; once a month, place your stone in a bowl of hematite, then overnight recharge it by placing it among rock crystals.

GARNET- Indian mythology regards this stone as "kundalinie fire" (fire of eternal metamorphosis) The Buddhist regard it as a holy stone that enlightens the soul and gives wisdom. It is thought to strengthen the heart and memory. This stone also activates other crystals. It is usually associated with the root and sacral chakra. Contact with the skin is important. The effectiveness of garnet beads placed on a necklace is multiplied several times. To cleanse your garnet stones; run them under hand hot water once a month, place them in the sun to recharge

AMETHYST - Buddhist monks in India use this stone to meditate. This stone is considered a powerful healer and protector. It enhances psychic abilities and spiritual awareness. It is used to alleviate migraines and to improve ones concentration. This stone is associated with the crown and brow chakra. To cleanse your amethyst stone; wash it once a month under warm running water and leave overnight among hematite stones.

CITRINE - This stone has been regarded as a healing stone for over six thousand years. It has been said Cesar's legions wore this stone on their chests because the stone was thought to have life-saving properties in battle. This stone combats stress and depression and helps to stimulate the metabolic process. It symbolizes individuality and brings about renewed determination. This stone is associated with the solar plexus chakra. For most effectiveness. This stone should be placed directly on the skin. To cleanse your stone; wash under water immediately after use.

JADE (JADEITE)- The myans and ancient Egyptians believed that this stone aroused and preserved love. This stone symbolizes renewal and helps to harmonize. This stone is associated with the heart Chakra. Place the stone on your forehead for 15 min. If your stone does not warm up or becomes opaque, cleanse it under running water. Recharge by placeing the stone in an amethyst geode.

CORAL - When Perseus decapitated the Gorgon Medusa, some drops of blood splashed into the sea and solidified as coral. Charming story, I know, but the good news is, coral is said to consist of divine blood. It is said to protect against negative energy while preventing loss of energy. Don't get all "Gorgon" on me but it's recommended for menopausal woman for this very reason. It's a wonderful aid for the circulatory system and for the skeletal system. It also allows the wearer to be immune to envy and resentment. This mineral is associated with the (red) root chakra (black)solar plexus (pink) heart chakara. The coral I use in my jewelry is authentic sponge coral and has been dyed to enhance it's color. To cleanse your coral, you may place it overnight in dry sea salt.

As time goes on, I'm sure I will be adding to this list. However, this gets us off to a good start. The majority of my work is done with these stones as their focal point. If you would like, I have listed some very good reference materials.  Just hit the browser button and your on your way.
